How to transcribe a Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams recording

Short answer

To transcribe a Zoom, Meet or Teams call, download the recording (Zoom saves it locally or under Recordings; Meet in Drive; Teams in OneDrive or SharePoint) and upload it. Dolcenota transcribes the audio, separates speakers and returns a summary in minutes, without a bot joining the call.

Once a video call is recorded, the hard part is usually finding the file. Each platform saves recordings in a different place, depending on your plan and settings. After that, turning it into a transcript takes a few minutes.

This guide shows where to find your recording on each platform, how to upload it, and what you get back. Dolcenota never joins your calls: you work from the recording.

Transcribe a call recording in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Find and download the recording

See where each platform saves recordings below. Download the file to your computer: an mp4 video, or an m4a audio file if the platform offers an audio-only version, which uploads faster.

  2. 2

    Upload it to Dolcenota

Open Dolcenota in your browser, tap "Upload file" and choose the recording. Video works; we transcribe only the audio. Calls up to 4 hours fit in one recording.

  3. 3

Name the speakers and get the minutes

In a few minutes you get the transcript split by speaker. Rename each one, then read the summary with decisions and action items, ask questions about the call, and export to Word or PDF.

Where each platform saves recordings

Exact options depend on your plan and your organization's settings. If you can't find a recording, ask the meeting organizer: recordings usually belong to them.

PlatformWhere the recording goes
Zoom (local recording)A Zoom folder in Documents on your computer, with a subfolder per meeting. Local recording is available on free accounts.
Zoom (cloud recording)Your Zoom web portal, under Recordings. Cloud recording requires a paid plan.
Google MeetA "Meet Recordings" folder in the organizer's Google Drive. Recording requires certain paid Google plans (Workspace or Google One).
Microsoft TeamsOneDrive (regular meetings) or SharePoint (channel meetings), linked from the meeting chat. Recordings may expire after a set time, so download them.

Tips for a better transcript

  • Ask everyone to use headphones; echo between speakers lowers accuracy.
  • Avoid talking over each other, especially when decisions are made.
  • Say names when you assign work ("Priya, can you send the deck by Friday?") so action items are precise.
  • Announce at the start that the call is being recorded.

Why not the platform's own transcript?

Zoom, Meet and Teams offer transcripts or AI notes on some plans, and if you have them, use them. Dolcenota helps when your plan doesn't include them, when the call is in Spanish or mixes English and Spanish, when you want the same tool for calls and in-person meetings, or when you want to ask questions about the call and export a clean document.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dolcenota join my Zoom or Teams call?

No. There's no bot. You upload the recording after the call.

Should I upload the video or the audio?

Either works. Audio-only files are smaller, so they upload faster.

Can I transcribe a call recorded in two parts?

Yes. Upload both files together and you get one continuous transcript.

Does it identify each person on the call?

Yes. Speakers are separated automatically, and you can rename them.

Is it free?

You can start free with 60 minutes a month. For regular calls, Plus is $7.99 a month for 400 minutes.
